PREDETERMINATION FORM FOR MEDICALLY NECESSARY CONTACTS THROUGH COMMERCIAL HEALTH PLANS
The rules for filing medically necessary contact lenses with routine payers like VSP or EyeMed are clearly defined and relatively simple. However, medical insurances don’t always understand the world of optometry, and getting a medically necessary claim to process correctly can be tough. Many medical insurances don’t cover medical contacts at all, or if they do, they pay so poorly that the office can lose money if they don’t handle these claims correctly. In order to help, we’ve created a predetermination form your practice can use when verifying benefit information with commercial medical carriers. Either send this form in or use it as a guide on what questions to ask when you call for benefit information.

HELPFUL INSURANCE HANDOUT FOR YOUR PATIENTS
Sometimes patients have a difficult time understanding why they owe a balance after their insurance claim has processed. Deductibles, coinsurance, copays, and noncovered services can be confusing if you don’t work in the field. Therefore, we’ve compiled a brief handout that goes over terms, hoping that this will help unhappy patients understand why they owe and redirects their questions to their insurance company. OFFICE TRAINING VIDEOS: AVAILABLE FOR OBS CLIENTS ONLY
We find that staff members at our offices often have many of the same questions. This is especially true when you hire new staff. Therefore, OBS has compiled a video training library on common topics our offices often ask us about. Topics include standard billing procedures for coding, check-in, and checkout; medical vs routine billing; cataract post-op co-manages; traditional Medicare vs replacement plans; VSP medically necessary contacts; and coordination of benefits. If you do not have the password to gain access to these videos, please call your coordinator or Mary, our training and curriculum manager, toll free at 877.727.3695. Check back frequently since we are adding new content regularly! Office Training Videos for OBS Clients Only
